Soft Tissue Grafting - Preserve your receding gums
A soft tissue graft is a periodontal plastic surgical procedure that involves tissue from one oral site (donor site) which is placed over other oral site that needs the tissue (recipient site). This is the most common technique utilised to cover the exposed roots of the teeth which are associated with sensitivity and decay.
Most common soft tissue grafts are free gingival graft (tissue removed from the surface), connective tissue graft (tissue removed from under the surface) both of which are harvested from the palate and pedicle graft (tissue harvested from the adjacent site). Depending upon your case, the periodontist will recommend the graft which is ideal for you.
Soft tissue grafting procedures are done in cases of gingival recession (receding gums), inadequate width of attached gingiva (inadequate gums to facilitate good oral hygiene) or as an adjunct to the dental implant procedures. A minimal wound is left over the palate which heals over a period of time. If required, the periodontist can fit a stent which will protect the wound and make you comfortable.
The soft tissue graft preserves your gums and your smile. If you want to know more about the treatment using soft tissue grafts, contact us. We would be happy to help.
